Grey's Anatomy: Someone's Quitting Seattle Grace!

Grey's Anatomy won't be airing new episodes until the second week of March but this gives the ABC medical drama enough time to build up anticipation for its explosive return on March 12.  Most recently, the network released a logline that is sure to rouse anxiety among fans.  Evidently, someone is quitting Seattle Grace and it's not who you'd expect.

Warning: Spoilers ahead!!!

Initially, you'd probably guess that its one of the two rumored cast members who is reportedly leaving Grey's Anatomy or some recurring actor on the show.  But the actual teaser reads: "After learning at a deposition that more of his patients have died than survived, Derek decides to quit, even as Meredith [Ellen Pompeo] refuses to give up on him."

At present, Derek is already in a dark place.  And his recent (questionable) decisions regarding the treatment of a pregnant patient portrayed by Jennifer Westfeldt has ultimately led him to ponder on whether he should leave his career.  Of course, this is Grey's Anatomy and the chances of Derek quitting Seattle Grace are pretty slim.  And to assure bothered Derek fans, Patrick Dempsey is not leaving!  On the other hand, this is still considered a huge twist to throw away in a press release.

Perhaps this could even pave the way to the unexpected romance plot of Mer-Der, who according to Grey's Anatomy scribe Pete Nowalk, “is not going where you think.”

Aside from Derek's professional nightmare, the March 12 episode, which is entitled “I Will Follow You into the Dark,” will also feature the return of Adele Webber (Loretta Devine) who will mediate Bailey (Chandra Wilson) and the Chief's (James Pickens, Jr.) ongoing dispute.  At the same time, Izzie's interns find out "something unsettling" about Patient X, unaware that the charts they're looking at are actually Izzie's.

Which storyline excites you the most?
Derek quitting
Adele Webber's return
Izzie's "unsettling" condition
