Judging on people’s reactions regarding the twin Mercy West promotions on Grey’s Anatomy, fans of the show (1) like Jesse Williams’ eyes and (2) aren’t exactly fond of Sarah Drew‘s character.

No ‘Jastina’ Next Season on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

As it is, the Everwood alum says she is perfectly aware that April is not the most popular doctor in Seattle Grace, and when she found out her babbling / oversharing would get McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey) shot in the finale, her reaction said it all: “Oh, come on, guys, really? They already hate my character, now they’re going to hate her even more!”

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Drew says she knows April had been “kind of annoying” during her brief stint in Seattle Grace, because she’s “just neurotic and really insecure.” But she believes things can change pretty soon, with the events in the finale as catalyst.

“Most of my stuff before was with Patrick and fawning over him awkwardly,” she says. “So this was the first opportunity to actually bond in a positive way with them. They say tragedy brings people together, so I guess that’s what happened.”

The 29-year-old singles out her character’s little heart-to-heart scene with Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) as a “gigantic step forward” in terms of the fans warming up to April. She concedes that while it’s “hard” for her as an actress to play an unpopular character, April remains to be “interesting” nonetheless.

But will her MerDer-meddling ways continue? Not if she can help it, says Drew.

“It just feels like April’s going to move on,” she adds. “I don’t see it happening after everything that transpired in the finale. After her hearing how much Meredith is in love with Derek. After she witnessed the miscarriage.”

Are you willing to give April another shot?
