On Thursday, “Some Kind of Miracle” may have beat American Idol in ratings, but they certainly didn’t win in the song category.  While I normally depend on each episode for my latest I-Pod download, I only came away with one memorable tune: Unkle Bob’s “Swans,” which played at the end of the episode.  The majority of the this week's Grey's Anatomy featured background piano, chiming, and a fair share of medical machine sounds.  The two other featured songs in the episode were “The Lake” by Aqua Lung and Damien Rice’s “Sleep Don’t Weep” (one of his less memorable tunes).

The show did come through with some great quotes and I have compiled a list of my Top 10 favorites (in no particular order):


1. Meredith:  There are medical miracles.  Being worshipers at the alter of science, we don’t like to believe that miracles exist, but they do.  Things happen.  We can’t explain them. We can’t control them, but they do happen.  Miracles do happen in medicine.  They happen everyday, just not always when we need them to happen.

2. Dylan: Meredith, this is not your brain on drugs.  This is death.  You are dead.  You’re really freaking dead, you’re dirt nap dead.

3. Alex:  Meredith always makes me think…screwed up people have a chance.

4. Christina: For 99 cents you can buy furniture man.  That is America. 

5. Derek: You broke her.  You called her ordinary.  You told her time and time again that nothing she does, ever, is good enough.  Every good thing Meredith is, happened despite you.

6. Denny:  Do you know what kind of miracle it is that Derek is who he is?  Do you know how rare it is that someone like him even exists?  He’s still an optimist.  He still believes in true love and magic and soul mates.  He’s waiting for you, and if you don’t come back from this, you will change who he is.

7. Meredith: What?
Denny: Izzy.
Meredith: You see her?
Denny: No, sometimes we’ll be in the same place at exactly the same time and ahh, I can almost hear her voice.  It’s like I’m touching her.  I like to believe she knows I’m there.  That’s all you get, that’s it. Moments, with the people you love.

8. George: People lie all the time.  They hold their tongues and they wait.  You should hold your tongue because if I’m not making a mistake you’re gonna look like a jerk and if I am, I’m gonna need you.  I need you.

9. Christina: Hi. I’m getting married to Burke.  Not that that should be anywhere on your list of thoughts right now but just in case you slip in the hallway or…you are the one person I wanted to tell.  Thank you for not dying.

10. Meredith:  At the end of a day like this, a day when so many prayers are answered, and so many aren’t…we take our miracles where we find them.  We reach across the gap, and sometimes, against all odds, against all logic, we touch.

I love the way 10 coincides with Izzy’s brush with Denny.  That was probably the most perfect way to close an episode in all of Grey’s Anatomy history. Compound that quote with the Unkle Bob song and the image: classic.
