It's time to leave the nest on Grey's Anatomy
. That was the
overriding sentiment of this week's episode as the five residents went
across the country on job interviews. Meredith, Cristina, Alex, April
and Jackson are about to take their medical boards, but that doesn't
mean all of them will have bright futures.
Not all titles featured on BuddyTV are available through Amazon Prime.
In the promo for next week's episode, April Kepner ominously stated that one in five doctors fail their boards. And the show's official synopsis for the May 3 episode says that "Catherine tells Richard that one of his residents has failed."
So which resident will fail? Let's look at each one to see who it might be.Cristina
: I have a gut feeling that Cristina will be the one to fail. Grey's Anatomy typically loves ripping the rug out from under its characters, and this one would make the most sense. This week Cristina was acting like her arrogant self, making all of the job offers come to her. She's acting like she's already passed her boards and she's the greatest surgeon in the history of the world. Having her fail the boards would be a wonderful twist.
It would also make sense since her marriage was just destroyed and, even though she's trying to act like it doesn't matter to her, maybe her relationship drama with Owen will affect her. Plus, failing the boards would keep her in Seattle and give her marriage a shot at reconciliation.Meredith
: This week set up the possibility of Meredith moving to
Boston, which would kind of ruin the whole "Derek is building her a
house" thing. Maybe Meredith will tank her boards on purpose so they
will stay in Seattle without Derek thinking she's giving up on her
: I can't imagine Alex failing. He's the underdog, the fighter who everyone else dismisses. However, in the alternate universe we learned that, no matter how good his life may be, he always finds a way to screw it up. He could easily have a self-implosion and screw up his future.Jackson
: The pressure of his last name is getting to him. It became clear in his job interview that he doesn't like being associated with Harper Avery, so maybe he'll sabotage himself.April
: She's a know-it-all, she's incredibly prepared and she's the chief resident. April is the kind of professional student who should excel at her boards. But in the promo for next week's episode, we see her kissing Jackson and punching a guy in the face. Clearly she's having a bit of a breakdown and that might affect her boards.
In the end, I feel like the guys are safe and it will be a woman who fails the boards. Cristina is my first option, with April running a close second thanks to her apparent breakdown. But never count out Meredith. If history teaches us anything, it's that she's not afraid to just let go, give up and drown.
