The 13th episode of season 8  brought us back to the beginning of Grey's Anatomy, asking if things had been different from the get go, then where would everyone be now? We get clues about some old favorites: Burke fled Cristina, just like before. Izzie was fired after Meredith found out about her shenanigans with Denny and reported her to Ellis Grey, chief of surgery. George never got a second chance after failing his intern exam and nobody heard from him again, which sort of makes me hope that he's off somewhere, alive, working as a dentist or something. 

As for everyone else, some things change, but mostly by the end of the episode things are on their way to how they are now. Derek's marriage with Addison is broken up by their incompatibility and Mark's philandering, but this time Mark and Addison are keeping the baby. Richard is starting to realize that maybe Ellis isn't the right woman to be sharing his life with. Alex messes everything up despite his attempts at being a better person. Miranda--or should I say Mandy--is a completely changed person, meek and timid, and by the end of the episode she had lost her job and gained a little confidence.  All in all, the episode was a fun diversion from what will certainly be the catastrophic fallout from Cristina and Owen's fight in the previous episode. Bailey: Oh, we create our own destiny. 

Alex: Our own destiny!

Addison: It's a beautiful day to save lives! 

Derek: Nice.

Meredith: She wants everyone around her to be ordinary so that she can be extraordinary! 

Derek: We'll take it one step at a time, and we'll make it work. 

Addison: It's not your baby. 

Bailey: Are you crying? 

Alex: I screwed up. I had a good thing, she was a good person, but...I had a chance to be better, but I screwed it up like I do every frickin' time. What the hell is wrong with me? 

Cristina: We don't have to do that thing where I say something and then you say something and then someone cries, or whatever. 

Meredith: Oh, yuck.

Meredith: So how about tonight you're not McDreary, you're just a guy in a bar. 

Derek: And you're just a girl in a bar. 

Meredith: I am. And I drink tequila. 

Meredith: Your life is a gift, accept it. No matter how screwed up or painful it seems to be. Some things are going to work out as if they were destined to happen...as if they were just meant to be.
