Written by Bill Kelly,
Enchanted is a romantic fantasy picture that consists of traditional animation and live action. It tells the story of a young girl named Princess Giselle who lives in the cartoon world of Andalasia. In the animated fairy tale land, magical beings frolic freely while music fills the air. She meets and falls on love with Prince Edward, the handsome prince of her dreams, but the romantic news upsets the villainous Queen Narissa who banishes her to New York City. Lost and frightened, Princess Giselle soon finds herself falling for a charming yet faulty divorce lawyer who helps her survive the chaotic metropolis.
This is reportedly the first feature-length Disney live-action traditional hybrid since
The Lizzie McGuire Movie. In addition, this is also the first theatrically released Disney American film to feature traditional animation since
Pooh's Heffalump Movie.
Moreover, the film includes score and music written by the accomplished songwriter and Broadway composer Alan Menken. He is credited for several Disney projects such as
The Little Mermaid,
Beauty and the Beast, and
The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Teaming up with Menken is fellow Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz who will be contributing the lyrics.
