Grey's Anatomy 3.20 - Time After Time Recap
Thursday, April 19, 2007
The first of a six episode run of all new Grey's Anatomy begins with a bang. An amazing Izzie revelation, a snotty chief candidate wedging himself between Christina and Burke, and some parents for Jane 'Ava' Doe? All of the key Grey's Anatomy threads are touched on, and the story is pumping on all pistons. As far as Grey's Anatomy episodes go, this was one of the best.
The shocker for Izzie is the appearance of the folks who adopted her daughter eleven years ago. Turns out Izzie's daughter needs a bone marrow transplant. Izzie agrees naturally, but struggles with her secret shame alone, keeping as tight a corridor as possible. Which doesn't work, of course, but more on that later.
Roger Reese makes another appearance as Christina's ex boy-friend, in town to show off his expert cardio-surgical skills and make a mad grab for the chief position. He finally figures out he doesn't have a chance at getting back with Christina and decides to pack up and leave town, finally. So far, it looks like the wedding is on for Christina and Burke.
Things between Grey and Derek are getting stressed as he gets all type-a about the chief's position. He starts pestering Webber for support in the chief race, but Webber is hesitant. After a couple of alpha male exchanges, Webber finally breaks down and tells Derek that if he loves Meredith, he'll give it up, because the ambition, and the job, will consume him. Derek reflects.
A couple shows up convinced that Jane Doe is their daughter, and for a while it looks like this is the truth, however the wife takes Alex aside and admits that 'Ava' is not their daughter and that her husband's clinging to her is purely pathological. Jane Doe doesn't take too kindly to this news.
George gets wind that something is up with Izzie and pries his way into her situation. It's sort of touching. Initially, I was a little turned off by the awkwardness that seemed to come with this pairing, after this episode, I'm a changed man. Go Gizzie.
