Just a couple of days before the big 2 hour season 6 premiere of Grey's Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo and husband Chris Ivery enjoyed an even bigger premiere; the birth of their first child, a daughter. Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery was born Tuesday September 15th according to Pompeo's representative.

Stella's birth means that Ellen will be taking some time off from Grey's Anatomy and the titular role of Meredith Grey for maternity leave. She'll be joining co-star Katherine Heigl on maternity leave. Heigl and her husband Joshua Kelley just adopted a child from South Korea, who they've named Naleigh. As two of the shows leading ladies step away for family time, the show will focus more on character-centric episodes and the forthcoming merger of Seattle Grace and Mercy West.

Congrats to both Ellen and Katherine!
