Chandra Wilson as Dr. Miranda Bailey

Dr. Miranda Bailey is a graduate of Wellesley College. She is a resident surgeon in charge of five interns in Seattle Grace Hospital. Also known as "The Nazi", she exudes a tough personality, which is often caused by her stress in juggling her family and career. Although intimidating and strict, the interns have come to realize that she beneath her strong exterior lies a gentle heart and compassionate soul, which became more apparent after she gave birth to her first child.

Miranda is married to Tucker Jones, and before she got pregnant with their first child, they had spent seven years of their marriage trying to conceive a child. When she went into labor, Tucker got into a serious car accident on his way to the hospital. On the same day, a patient who had an unexploded bazooka lodged in his body caused the hospital to assume the state of Code: Black. At first, Miranda did not know about Tucker’s accident, but when the chaos broke out and she became suspicious of her husband’s tardiness, Dr. Addison Montgomery had to tell her the truth. Under extreme pressure and constant worrying about Tucker, Miranda tried to delay giving birth to her baby. Intern George O’Malley stepped in and convinced her to do otherwise. Meanwhile, Dr. Derek Shepherd took over operating on Tucker, and when the bomb squad told him to evacuate, he refused, saying that he was more scared of Miranda than the unexploded bazooka.

With the arrival of her son, Miranda had a much harder time balancing her career and parenthood. When her intern Izzie Stevens got into trouble for cutting her fiancé’s LVAD wire, Miranda felt responsible and ended up blaming herself. Nevertheless, she has tried her best to overcome the new obstacles in her path, and has even established a free clinic, which was named after Izzie’s beloved heart patient, Denny Duquette.
