Amber Stevens is most known for her portrayal of Ashleigh on ABC Family's
Greek, but while the show is on a break, the young actress has been busy pursuing another one of her passions: singing.
Stevens has always been interested in music, and has been playing piano for twelve years. While she has yet to earn awards for her acting prowess, she has won several singing competitions, and has even sung back-up for Gladys Knight. She also participated in the on-stage chorus for FOX's
American Idol.
“I have been singing forever. I mean I can't remember a time when I wasn't singing,” she said in a video interview recently posted on
Greek's official website. “All my home videos, I'm in diapers I'm already dancing to Michael Jackson on MTV… I've always wanted to do this.”
Amber Stevens made her public singing debut in September, performing at Los Angeles' The Mint for the night club's "Lilith Unfair" event, which donates a part of its proceeds to various women's charities.
“I was so nervous beforehand,” she said in the video. “I didn't know what was gonna come, but I got up there. I felt everyone was really supportive in the audience. I knew I would be OK even if something went wrong.”
Fortunately, Stevens' public debut was a success, and she hopes to someday release “an album and do a tour of some kind.” She is, however, still intent on furthering her acting career as well.
While
Greek is Stevens' first starring role in television, she has guest-appeared in a few other series, including
CSI and
Complete Savages. She was also featured in the 2006 movie
Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
Fans of Amber Stevens have to wait until next year to catch the actress on the small screen again. According to
TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, new episodes of
Greek are reportedly scheduled to begin airing in March, although instead of the ten, only eight scripts will be filmed before production comes to a halt due to the strike.
