Update on 'Gossip Girl' Star's Split with 'American Idol' Champ
Last week, we reported on how the friendship between Gossip Girl's Chace Crawford and former `N Sync heartthrob JC Chasez has spawned rumors of a gay angle.  At the end of last week's piece, we also mentioned that Crawford had allegedly split with girlfriend Carrie Underwood of American Idol fame.

This week, we follow up on that story, bringing additional confirmation of the break-up and the somewhat casual manner in which the former lovebirds parted.

Perhaps befitting the busy lifestyle of celebrities and with the advances of modern technology, Underwood revealed that she and the Gossip Girl star ended their romance in digital fashion.

"It was completely mutual," Underwood told Extra during the taping for Idol Gives Back .  "We broke up over text so ... it's like 'peace out.'"

She added that their relationship simply didn't work out, perhaps due in part to both of them being in the limelight.

"It just didn't work,” the American Idol winner said.  “We both knew it didn't work and [had] no hard feelings at all whatsoever.  It's difficult while you're dating because people always make a lot bigger deal of things than they actually are.  Then when you break up with somebody and then like two months later it comes out and it's like you're rehashing old stuff.”

According to People Magazine, the split was a bit hard on Gossip Girl's Crawford.  The magazine reported his sister, Candice, saying "He was upset about the breakup.  It's always hard when you lose a relationship."
However, Chace's younger sister did say that her brother is “doing okay through this whole ordeal."  She was optimistic that both he and Carrie will eventually manage just fine in due time.

"Chace will get through it," Candice told People.  "We love Carrie, too.  They're dolls and they'll both do well."
