Gossip Girl: Little J Grows Up
Gossip Girl: Little J Grows Up
On last night's Gossip Girl, Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) finally left her childish ways behind her by wearing a hideous mullet and black skanky eyeliner to go with her rebellious new attitude. Well, I like the ‘tude, but I can certainly live without the mullet or the eyeliner. Or that awful hat she was wearing all episode. What was up with that? For a talented young fashion designer, she should try to make herself a wee bit more presentable, n'est-ce pas?

Normally, I tend to find the Humphrey children on Gossip Girl to be horrifically boring. Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) has the added distinction of being boring and insufferably self-righteous and hypocritical. But I like Little J when she's being a bitch. She was delightfully bitchy toward Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) during the Great Turf War of ‘Aught-Eight, and she brought the bitchiness back with the elder Waldorf when she all but gave Eleanor the finger.

I have to applaud Jenny Humphrey for having the balls to tell Eleanor to go shove it. Where does Eleanor get off making Jenny work overnight to finish that dress, anyway? I know I'm supposed to be suspending my disbelief, but Jenny is only 15; surely, there are some kind of labor laws that would protect a child from being exploited like that. And surely, Rufus Humphrey (Matthew Settle) would have noticed Jenny's slave status and intervened in some way.

If we should take home anything from last night's Gossip Girl episode, clumsily titled “Prete-a-Poor-J,” then it is this: if you stand up for yourself, then you will get the guy. I had an argument with my fellow BuddyTV staffer and Gossip Girl recapper extraordinaire, Don Williams, about the kiss, but I personally did not think it was creepy or icky in any way. In fact, I cheered when they made out because I think that individually, these two characters bore me to tears, but together, they can conquer the world! At the very least, they can conquer Brooklyn.

P.S.  This is neither here nor there, but the absolute best part of the episode for me was the beginning when Dorota catches Blair, um, tiptoeing through tulips.  God always watches, B!  XOXO.
