Gossip Girl addicts, I'm a huge fan of the dynamic between Blair Waldorf and Chuck Bass. I would happily watch them bicker, backstab and scheme against one another for about 300 more episodes. I'll never tire of the way B manages to turn C's name into a curse word with terms like "mother Chucker" and "Basshole," and I always feel my heart sink when they share the occasional romantic moment that inevitably goes awry due to Chuck's mother Chucking bad boy ways.
Leighton Meester and
Ed Westwick have chemistry to burn, which is apparent whether they're tossing insults at one another or hooking up during a blackout. They're the best part of a ridiculously great show.
As much as I love Chuck and Blair, I'm not sure I want to see them get together until the show comes to an end. Can you imagine B and C settled down with one another and acting lovey-dovey and romantic? Even Georgina Sparks isn't as frightening as that thought.
The
Gossip Girl writers are a clever bunch, so it's possible they could find a way to bring Blair and Chuck together without making them lose the nastiness that makes them so special. It might be interesting to see Chuck trying to resist the twins that often throw themselves at him, and I can easily picture Blair having hilarious freak-outs as a jealous girlfriend. However, I think it's safe to say their coupling would never last if they got together at this point in the show's run. Not only are they too wild and young to make things work, but it would make the series boring if the two schemers settled down.
I'm usually not a fan of couples that are destined to be together on television shows. I quickly tired of Ryan and Marissa on
The O.C., I'm not heavily invested in Dan and Serena, and don't even get me started on how much I loathe Lucas and Peyton on
One Tree Hill. Though Chuck and Blair seem destined for one another eventually, their evil ways and Machiavellian manipulations save them from falling into the boring on-again, off-again routine that's plagued these other pairings. I'd like to see them continue to destroy each other's lives rather than settle down in loving bliss.
It's possible the
Gossip Girl writers put themselves in a no-win situation when they started the Chuck and Blair romance in season 1. Fans will likely bitch if the duo never ends up together, but they'll also complain if they settle down and become boring. As they currently stand, C and B are a beauty to behold. It's wonderful seeing Blair make Chuck jealous by flaunting the Lord, just as it's awesome watching Chuck manipulate Serena's social status simply to screw over Blair. The mind games and dastardly schemes are a blast to watch, but things will have to change eventually. I just hope the writers remember that we love Chuck and Blair when they're at their evil best. Seeing them happy and settled down wouldn't be OMFG-worthy at all.
Should Blair and Chuck get together?
