CW has officially green lighted a new series called
Gossip Girl, which is based on the novel series created by Cecily von Ziegesar. Scheduled for the network’s 2007-2008 line up,
Gossip Girl is set to take the Wednesday night niche at 9/8c, following America’s Next Top Model.
Gossip Girl centers on the lives of young adults residing on New York’s Upper East Side as they deal with sex, drugs and other teenage issues. However, in the privileged prep school world lies an ultra-secretive girl known only as
Gossip Girl who gives exclusive scoops and disseminates the latest controversial news through text messages. Of course, her gossip just complicates everything while leaving the mystery of her identity.

Kristen Bell serves as the narrator of Gossip Girl, the seemingly all-knowing yet mysterious source of all intrigue and scoops. Bell is most popularly known for her lead role on
Veronica Mars.
Blake Lively stars as Serena van der Woodsen, a student and one of the lead characters of the show. Lively is known for her work in the film
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and
Accepted.
Leighton Meester stars as Blair Waldorf, Serena’s closest friend. This 21-year old actress is known for her appearance on
Surface and
Blind Trust.
Chace Crawford stars as Nate Archibald, the object of affection of both Serena and Blair. This 21-year old actor is notable for playing Tyler Sims in
The Covenant.
The cast also includes Penn Badgley as Dan Humphrey, Taylor Momsen as Jenny Humphrey, Ed Westwick as Chuck Bass, Nicole Fiscella as Isabel Coates, and Nan Zhang as Kati Farkas.
