When
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants rocked the faces off of theatergoers in 2005, only two of the four actresses involved were well-known for their work on hit television shows.
Alexis Bledel was still playing Rory on
Gilmore Girls at the time, and Amber Tamblyn had made a name for herself as the title character on
Joan of Arcadia. When
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 hit theaters last week, the other two members of the foursome stole the spotlight.
Blake Lively is now uber-famous for her work as Serena van der Woodsen on
Gossip Girl, and
America Ferrera is the one and only
Ugly Betty.
Last week, Ferrera and Lively appeared on the morning show
Good Day L.A. to talk about the film, but things quickly got derailed in favor of
Gossip Girl dish. If the hilarious clip that was highlighted on
The Soup is any indication, Ferrera may be tired of hearing about the CW series.
Maybe I need to stop reading about the infamous feud between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford on the set of
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, because I always imagine juicy behind the scenes drama when famous actresses team up on a project. I picture bickering, infighting, backstabbing, debates over who's more famous, etc. Any gossip site will tell you that these epic dramas occasionally happen in Hollywood. There are plenty of people who play best friends on screen who can't stand each other in real life.
Of course, I'm certainly not insinuating that any members of the sisterhood secretly loathe each other. After all, they have magical one-size-fits-all jeans to bond over! I'm just saying that it's possible that some behind the scenes drama existed. Both Ferrera and Lively are much more famous now than they were in 2005, which probably changed the dynamic on the set quite a bit.
On
The Soup this past weekend, host Joel McHale played the
Good Day L.A. clip featuring the interview with Ferrera and Lively. I'll let you judge what's going through Ferrera's mind as Lively goes on and on about the second season of
Gossip Girl. Is she merely bored and zoning out, or is she so tired of hearing about the Upper East Side that she's ready to go all Georgina Sparks on somebody?
I don't even care if Ferrera was ready to get in a catfight, because my colleague Debbie Chang and I are still tremendously excited to go see
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 this Wednesday. As Debbie herself said, "I'm going to bring a huge box of Kleenex, because I just know I'm going to cry!" Such is the power of the sisterhood.
