This Week in 'Glee' Music: "Mattress"
Only three songs from this week's Glee, and understandably so--the episode has a lot of plot. I mean, have you seen the quick recap that precedes each episode? It goes so far and so long. I think it went for a minute or so! I think we'll remember this episode for three things: the smattering of Sue one-liners, seeing Artie off his wheelchair, and the moment we've all been waiting for, Will finding out that Terri is faking her pregnancy. Finally! Now, for that other pregnancy-related storyline...

So, on to this week's songs then, all available for download on iTunes and also on the second Glee CD, which comes out next week. Yes, gleeks, it comes out next week. I can't believe time flies so fast, too.

"Smile"
Originally by: Lily Allen
Glee-fied by: Lea Michele and Cory Monteith
My take: I still don't like it, and I think I know why: the charm of the original version was in Lily's cockney accent. I can't help but miss it when I hear this.

"Jump"

Originally by: Van Halen
Glee-fied by: everyone at New Directions
My take: This is a grower. First time I saw this, I thought there was too much screaming. The second time, I fell in love with it, the way I did with the original. And the video, so fun!

"Smile"
Originally by: Charlie Chaplin
Glee-fied by: everyone at New Directions
My take: Like the original, this one is poignant for all the right reasons. I'll say this is the best choice for the closing montage--and yes, that includes the last scene with the messed-up yearbook.

"I told them to go ahead and yank out those tear ducts." More quotables here!
