The return of Sam Evans to Glee is almost here. Chord Overstreet makes his triumphant return to the series on Tuesday, December 6, and FOX has released the official synopsis that provides details about how he returns.

Glee is available on Amazon Prime.

"In an attempt to recruit a few more members, Finn tracks down former teammate Sam Evans (Chord Overstreet) and convinces him to come back to the glee club."

I'm happy to see that New Directions is finally addressing an issue I've had since the start of season 3, namely the lack of members in the group. Glee clubs need 12 members to compete at Sectionals, and both New Directions and the Troubletones are short as of now. At least Finn is being proactive about it.

However, this also sounds a little preposterous. What's Finn going to do, go ask Sam to convince his parents to move back to the school district just so he can sing back-up in a glee club? Sam left because his dad got a new job after he lost his old one and the Evans family was forced to live in a motel.

Worse yet, Sam's return will also come with the sad realization that his summer fling, Mercedes, moved on as soon as he left and got herself a new man.

The eighth episode of Glee, titled "Hold On to Sixteen" also reveals that McKinley will host this year's Sectionals (which makes sense since two of the three competing clubs are from this school) and the episode will also feature Tina encouraging Mike to follow his dreams against his father's wishes.

In addition to the return of Chord Overstreet, "Hold On to Sixteen" also marks the return of Grant Gustin as Sebastian Smythe, the villainess Warbler who targeted Blaine. Other guest stars include Smallville's John Schneider and former soap star Tanya Clarke as Sam's parents, Mike Chang's dad, Sugar, Rory and Shelby.

"Hold on to Sixteen" airs Tuesday, December 6 at 8pm on FOX.
