Final Coroner’s Report for Cory Monteith

The British Columbia Coroners Service has finished up its investigation into the death of Glee star Cory Monteith. The official Coroner’s Report has been released, which states the actor died from “intravenous heroin use combined with the ingestion of alcohol.”

After he was found unresponsive in his hotel room on the afternoon of July 13, 2013, it was noted Monteith “was clearly deceased and resuscitation was not attempted. … [He] was found in a collapsed position on the hotel room floor.”

Drug paraphernalia was found in the room, including “a spoon with drug residue and a used hypodermic needle. There were also two empty champagne bottles and multiple glasses located on a nearby table.” Since Monteith had refrained from using drugs following his stint in rehab this past spring, using again combined with a lower tolerance level that came about as a result can be “toxic and fatal” in situations like this.

Claire Thompson, the coroner who issued the report, declared Monteith’s death as “accidental.” He was 31.

Song List Revealed for Cory Monteith Tribute

Continuing on the same topic, Glee will be paying tribute to the late actor next week during episode 3, fittingly titled “The Quarterback.” And the reported song list has made its way online. There will be six songs, according to MjsBigBlog:

1. “Seasons of Love” from Rent

2. “I’ll Stand By You” by The Pretenders — Mercedes

3. “Fire and Rain” by James Taylor

4. “If I Die Young” by The Band Perry — Santana

5. “No Surrender” by Bruce Springsteen

6. “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan/Adele — Rachel

It should be noted that “I’ll Stand By You” is a reprise — it was first performed back in episode 10 (“Ballad”) of season 1 when Finn sang to Quinn’s ultrasound.

Also, I think fans have been wanting “Seasons of Love” from Rent to be performed on the show for a while; it’s just unfortunate it has to happen under these circumstances.

And you may also notice that Lea Michele’s Rachel only has one song in the entire tribute, and it’s the final number. Reports are saying that will be her only appearance in the episode, which I’m sure will be beyond emotional to watch.

Heather Morris Gives Birth to a Baby Boy

On a much lighter note, Heather Morris, who plays Brittany, gave birth on Saturday, September 28. The baby boy’s name is Elijah, according to Us Weekly.

While the pregnancy was “unexpected,” sources told Us at the time that Morris and her boyfriend, Taylor Hubbell, “are incredibly happy and excited.” And during her pregnancy, another source said, “Heather is glowing! She is so happy. She is really excited to be a mom. She is just amazed by the whole experience.”

Morris is no longer a series regular on Glee. Considering her storyline was wrapped up nicely at the end of season 4, along with being pregnant in real life, it came as no surprise when this news broke back in April. But considering the hit FOX musical hasn’t been shy about bringing back characters who graduated or otherwise moved on, like Mercedes, Mike and Puck, I wouldn’t be surprised if they brought her back as a guest star sometime in the future.
