co-creator Ryan Murphy confirmed to TV Guide Magazine
that he'll be adding a Christian character to the series' second season.
Okay, so you're probably wondering, "Another one?" After all, the show's got a share of more conservative characters -- Quinn's Christian, for one, and her parents are even more so -- but Murphy promised that unlike those characters, the new one he's cooking up will represent viewpoints from the right side of the spectrum.
Glee is available on Amazon Prime.
"We've taken a couple jabs at the right wing this year, so what I want to do with this character is have someone who Christian kids and parents can recognize and say, 'Oh, look -- I'm represented there, too!'" he said. "If we're trying to form a world of inclusiveness, we've got to include that point of view as well."
The plan is to have this new character as a new member of New Directions: I'm presuming it could be one of the three new cast members Glee
's producers recently looked for through online auditions. Murphy promises she'd speak her mind, objecting to the glee club's more suggestive musical selections. Most importantly, though, she'll be butting heads with Kurt, especially since the new character will disagree with his homosexuality.
Now, gleeks, my question: could this work? I mean, we'll have a pretty big cast if we're to push with this plan... not to mention this sounds a bit like lip service to me, although I trust they'll treat this with the necessary sensitivity they gave the other characters.(Image courtesy of FOX)
