Glee season 5 will no longer premiere on Thursday, September 19. The recent death of star Cory Monteith has resulted in the network and studio delaying the start of the new season to give everyone a chance to cope with the tragic loss and work on how to address the loss.

The fifth season of Glee will now premiere one week later, Thursday, September 26 at 9pm on FOX. Production on the new season will begin in early August, several weeks after it was originally scheduled to begin.

There's still no word on how the Glee writers will address the absence of Finn Hudson, but it was required rewriting major storylines. When Monteith died, the writers had already begun working on the stories and scripts for the first few episodes, but his death will dramatically change some of that.

Cory Monteith died July 13 in a Vancouver hotel from a mixed drug toxicity of alcohol and heroin.

Glee will certainly not be the same without him, and it's going to be difficult and emotional for the writers and actors who will have to deal with this serious issue when production begins on season 5.
