The CW's Arrow
has its Flash, and he's a Warbler. According to The Hollywood Reporter
villain Grant Gustin has landed the high-profile role of Barry Allen, aka the superhero the Flash, on the hit drama.
Gustin is best known as bad guy Sebastian Smythe on FOX's Glee
, a gay member of the Dalton Academy Warblers who was hellbent on beating the New Directions and stealing Blaine away from Kurt. He was not successful in either endeavor.
He is also no stranger to the CW, landing a recurring role on the final season of 90210
this past spring as Campbell, a rich college student in a secret society who tried to ruin Navid's life. Clearly Gustin is accustomed to playing the bad guy, so being a superhero will be a bit of a change of pace.
Gustin will first appear in episodes 8 and 9 of the upcoming second season of the CW's Arrow
. He will return in episode 20, which will be designed as a backdoor pilot for a potential spin-off (just like The Vampire Diaries
did with The Originals
Barry Allen is a forensic scientist who starts out as an average guy, but will become The Flash, who has the ability to run incredibly fast. It's unknown how the show will deal with this as Arrow
is far more grounded in a sense of realism than most superheroes (meaning there haven't been any aliens or mutant powers).Fun Fact
: Gustin and Arrow
star Stephen Amell both guest starred on the CW's 90210
. They've also both starred in Lifetime original movies, with Amell as Joran van der Sloot in Justice for Natalee Holloway
and Gustin in 2012's A Mother's Nightmare
How do you feel about Gustin landing the role as Barry "The Flash" Allen? Do you think he could support his own spin-off?Arrow
season 2 premieres Wednesday, October 9 at 8pm on the CW.
