"Girlfriends"Season 8 of the amazingly durable Girlfriends on The CW takes off next Monday, October 1 at 9pm.

At the end of last season, Maya (Golden Brooks) and Darnell (Khalil Kain) finally found their dream home and Darnell had managed to get his garage back.  When CW Source spoke to Khalil Kain some weeks back, he was ecstatic about the upcoming storyline for his and Golden Brooks' characters on Girlfriends' eighth season.

“Yeah, Maya and Darnell are about to have another baby, so it's gonna get a little hectic in the house,” Kain revealed.  “Look, all they have to know is, Maya – pregnant? Ooooooohhhhh!”

However, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, show creator Mara Brock Akil dropped a bomb about the supposed joyful event for Maya and Darnell.

"We are calling this 'Joy and Pain Year'," Akil jokingly described the coming new season.  "Maya [Golden Brooks] is having a miscarriage.  Our stories all sound dramatic, but our writers are turning out some really funny material about some really challenging subjects."

Aside from the reported miscarriage, Akil also mentioned that Richard T. Jones' character, Aaron, who got engaged to Joan (Tracee Ellis Ross) at the close of season 7, is being shipped off to Iraq.  Aaron's sudden departure was necessitated by Jones' move to FOX's The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Finally, Akil also revealed the new season's plans for Persia White's character.

"Lynn [Persia White] - we're putting her on this trajectory to become a rock star," Akil announced.  "What's wonderful about Persia is she's a musician.  So we're actually moving Lynn's character a little closer to Persia."

For her part, Keesha Sharp, who portrays Monica Charles Brooks on the show, couldn't say much even when pressed for details by CW Source.  What she couldn't say enough of was that everyone should tune in to the new season of Girlfriends, because it promises plenty of excitement.

“What I can say is that we have some exciting stuff that's incorporating what we have going on in our world today,” Sharp confided.  "That's gonna be happening on our show, and also, just some exciting drama.  It's exciting.  You have to watch. It's amazing.  The writers are doing their thing; the producers are doing their thing.”

As a parting shot, co-star Khalil Kain summed up the show's latest offering in these words: “Season 8 – history in the making.”
