In case you haven’t heard, Lauren Graham, one of the lead actresses of the recently cancelled series Gilmore Girls, stars in the movie Evan Almighty, which is scheduled to hit the theaters on June 22, 2007.

In an interview with Glamour magazine for their July issue, the Gilmore Girls actress has expressed her excitement in focusing her career in the big screen. “I love TV and I hope to do another show at some point, but I feel ready to take a break,” Graham has said. “Hopefully in 20 years I’ll still be working, like Diane Keaton. She once told me, ‘You’ll be OK because you can do comedy. Funny doesn’t age.’ She was an inspiration!”

Evan Almighty, a fantasy comedy and sequel to the 2003 film Bruce Almighty, features Graham as the character Joan Baxter. The movie follows the story of Evan Baxter, played by Steve Carell, who is being tormented by rival Bruce Nolan on screen from the Buffalo TV station. But after making peace with Bruce, he has moved on to do better and bigger things. As a newly elected congressman at Washington D.C., he has left Buffalo in search of a higher calling, a calling summoned by Almighty God, who has given Evan a task of building a new ark, just like Noah did before.

Directed by Tom Shadyac and written by Steve Oedekerk, Evan Almighty has initially started filming with a budget of nearly $140 million. Eventually, additional costs have sunk in, along with set construction, and visual effects, which have amounted to an estimated $250 million. In an attempt to reflect environmental themes of how humans are stewards of God’s creation, the movie has been shot in various locations like Virginia, Waynesboro, Crozet, and in Hollywood, California.

Evan Almighty also includes Morgan Freeman as God, Johnny Simmons as Dylan Baxter, Graham Philips as Jordan Baxter, Jimmy Bennett as Ryan Baxter, Wanda Sykes as Rita, and John Goodman as Congressman Long.
