"Raines�, a midseason replacement that will premiere early next year on NBC, will star Jeff Goldblum as a quirky but brilliant cop who talks to dead people in order to solve crimes. If it sounds a lot like Ghost Whisperer, it's because it is a lot like Ghost Whisperer, except that viewers must watch Jeff Goldblum for an hour instead of the eye-pleasing Jennifer Love Hewitt. I've always been a Goldblum fan and hold out some hope that maybe "Raines� will be a winner. Mid-season replacements have not had a historically good track record, but, lately, a couple of shows have bucked that trend (The Office, Grey's Anatomy).
