There are only a few days until the thrilling fantasy series, Ghost Whisperer, returns for its fourth season on October 3.  Having 24 episodes ahead, the series decided to kick off the excitement with the new episode “Firestarter.”  The premiere returns with its award-winning cast, along with a few fresh faces set to grace your small screens.

A fire breaks out at Rockland University, which sets the pace for the episode, “Firestarter.”  Jim (David Conrad) risks his life to save a psychology student named Eli (Jamie Kennedy).  Afterwards, Eli undergoes a near death experience that could just change things for the characters.   He survives the incident, leading Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and her husband, Jim, to take Eli to the hospital.

Melinda and Eli spend some time together as he recovers, forming a companionship and becoming fast friends.  Later on, they learn that friends share a lot of things, which may or may not be a disadvantage.  They find out that in their case, what they share is their ability to communicate with the dead.  Their interaction is something to look forward to, in addition to the evolution of Melinda's character.  Many intriguing new elements are tackled this season, which is sure to increase fans' anticipation.

Directed by Eric Laneuville, “Firestarter” also stars Camryn Manheim, Cristoph Sanders, Kurt Caceres, Alona Tal and Romy J. Park.  Comedian Jay Mohr also takes his turn as a guest star, appearing on the first two episodes of Ghost Whisperer's upcoming season.  His character, Professor Rick Payne, will also be seen on the subsequent installment “Big Chills.”

Last season, fans were left with the shocking truth that Melinda discovered about her family.  Titled “Pater Familias,” the episode featured a rough series of bodily possessions and Melinda facing the reality about her father.

The Emmy Award-nominated series premiered on the CBS network on September 2005 to modest success, garnering several awards during and after its run.  On October 3, 8pm ET/PT, Jennifer Love Hewitt and the rest of the Ghost Whisperer cast return on CBS for the premiere of their fourth season.
