While she plays someone who is pregnant and tied the knot on Ghost Whisperer, Jennifer Love Hewitt shot down rumors that she has bitten the bullet and got engaged with comedian Jamie Kennedy.

Kennedy, who recently celebrated his 39th birthday in Las Vegas, said, "We're not engaged...  It's just funny when I read stuff like that.  It's actually very flattering that they care so much."

A close friend of Hewitt's previously told the Chicago Sun-Times that the couple had been shopping for rings and recently bough each other "love bracelets" from Cartier.

"She is simply a girl who always needs a man in her life and is getting nervous that she may miss out on marriage and having a family," says the source.

While the comedian denied making the proposal, he still gave her props for the way she handled all the false news.

"She's really good at protecting herself.  I mean, we'll be going out for breakfast and they'll be like, five guys following us.  She'll get out of the car and say, 'Okay five pictures and then leave us alone,' " Kennedy said.

The couple, of course, met at the set of the CBS thriller drama when Kennedy joined the cast of Ghost Whisperer as Melinda's right-hand man Eli James.

As for the show's fourth season finale, "The Book of Changes" was seen by 9.15 million viewers, prompting CBS to renew the series for a fifth season in mid-May.  "Over the very, very long span of time that the Watchers have been watching, they've observed that history tends to repeat itself," says creator P.K. Simonds.  "That gives them a certain ability to make a pretty good educated guess about what the future is."

Kennedy has revealed that Hewitt is set to direct the show's fifth season premiere.
