As you have already heard, a large fire broke out this weekend at the Universal Studios theme park in Los Angeles, taking with it several landmarks. The fire, which was reportedly the size of two city blocks at one point, engulfed the New York streetscape set, home to such blockbuster hits such as
Spider Man 2 and
Transformers. On top of that, the fire claimed the iconic Courtyard Square set, which is currently being used as a standing set for CBS'
Ghost Whisperer.
The outdoor set, which imitates a town square with a tall clock tower in the middle, has been featured in hundreds of movies over the past several decades. It is best known as the stage of the iconic lightning-strike scene in the film
Back to the Future.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire and production of
Ghost Whisperer will not be interrupted.
"We're very grateful there was no loss of life, and no serious injury," NBC Universal spokeswoman Cindy Gardner said. "It was tragic and iconic, but it can be replaced and it can be rebuilt."
"There has been damage to some secondary exterior locations on the
Ghost Whisperer sets, but production will continue as scheduled," a studio representative confirmed to TV.com. "[The production team is] already up and running and first day of shooting is June 11."
Ghost Whisperer is a fantasy-thriller drama that follows
Jennifer Love Hewitt as the fictional medium, Melinda Gordon, who communicates with earthbound spirits to help them resolve their unfinished business, allowing them to crossover into “The Light.” The show also features Melinda's supportive husband, Jim, played by
David Conrad, friend Delia Banks, played by
Camryn Manheim, and Professor Rick Payne, portrayed by
Jay Mohr.
Fans can catch the fourth season of
Ghost Whisperer on DVD this coming September and fifth season this fall on CBS.
