As reported previously,
Ghost Whisperer has enlisted comedian Jamie Kennedy as a replacement for
Jay Mohr, whom fans will be seeing less of when
Ghost Whisperer returns for a fourth season this coming fall. The 37-year-old actor, who has been with
Ghost Whisperer since the beginning of season 2 as Professor Rick Payne, will soon be leaving the fantasy horror series to star in his upcoming sitcom, which will also air on CBS.
Most recently, CBS has changed the title of Mohr's new show, now called
Gary Unmarried, instead of its original title,
Project Gary, where he plays a father who is struggling with life after divorce.
Gary Unmarried, which executive produced Ed Yeager, Ric Swartzlander and James Burrows for ABC Studios in association with CBS Paramount Network Television, is a comedy about a recently single painting contractor, and his controlling ex-wife, Allison, who struggle with post-divorce turmoil after 15 years of marriage as they each embark on new relationships.
Aside from Mohr, the series also stars Paula Marshall (
Nip/Tuck, Out of Practice, Veronica Mars), Jaime King (
Kitchen Confidential, The Class, My Bloody Valentine 3-D), Ryan Malgarini (
How to Eat Fried Worms, The United States of Leland, Freaky Friday), and
Al Madrigal (
Welcome to the Captain, Totally Baked: A Pot-U-Mentary).
Meanwhile, Mohr is anything but unmarried in real life. In fact, Mohr and his wife, actress
Nikki Cox, perhaps best known as Mary Connell on the NBC drama
Las Vegas, are skipping the TV Critics Association press tour to renew their wedding vows overseas.
Fans can catch Jay Mohr on
Gary Unmarried, which kicks off on Wednesday, September 24 at 8:30pm ET/PT, and on
Ghost Whisperer, where he is still expected to appear on the first couple of episodes of season 4 as his character will soon go on sabbatical.
