Previously On Ghost Whisperer: Melinda learned the secrets of her past, thanks to a series of bodily possessions.  Also, Melinda's mother told her the truth about her father.

Did you know that Ghost Whisperer is about to embark on its fourth season?  No one would have predicted that three years ago, when the show premiered to poor critical reviews.  What critics didn't account for was the appeal of the deadly combo of ghosts and Jennifer Love-Hewitt.  Love-Hewitt, after years of attempting movie stardom, stumbled back to the small screen with Ghost Whisperer and has flourished in the nurturing aura of CBS procedurals.

The popularity of CBS procedurals is really incredible.  CBS continues to trot out new ones every season, and almost every one has become either a major or minor success.  It's come to the point where most of CBS's schedule is filled by that particular genre.  CBS has twelve different procedurals on their fall schedule, vastly more than any other network.  The network has found something that works and, even if the shows lack serious ambition, viewers continue to respond favorably.

The unheralded star of Ghost Whisperer is Love-Hewitt's omnipresent cleavage, which consistently attracts teenage boys every Friday night.  I can't blame them.  If I was fourteen and staying home on a Friday, there are a lot worse things to do than spend an hour with Jennifer Love-Hewitt and ghosts.

Jamie Kennedy, mostly known for his comedic work, has signed on for Ghost Whisperer's fourth season.  He will play a Psychology student named Eli.  Jay Mohr, who stars in his own new CBS series this season called Gary Unmarried, will reprise his role as Rick Payne for a few episodes before leaving the series indefinitely.  Jamie Kennedy for Jay Mohr – seems like a pretty fair trade.
