Now that NBC has pulled the plug on
Las Vegas, many soap fans are now speculating that
Vanessa Marcil is likely to return to
General Hospital. Although nothing has been official, her former on-screen love interest on the soap,
Maurice Benard, already likes the idea of her possible comeback.
"I'm all for it," Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos on
General Hospital, told
Soap Opera Digest. To find out more about this, grab a copy of S
oap Opera Digest's March 18 issue, which hits newsstands today.
In case you didn't know, Marcil first played the role of Brenda Barrett on
General Hospital in 1992. Her most notable storyline involved a love triangle between her, mobster Sonny Corinthos and corporate raider Jasper Jacks (
Ingo Rademacher). During her stint on the soap, she earned Daytime Emmy Award nominations in 1997 and 1998, and won in 2003 for Outstanding Supporting Actress. She was also named Outstanding Lead Actress at the Soap Opera Digest Awards in 1998.
After six years on
General Hospital, Marcil left the show to star in the made-for-television movie
To Love, Honor and Deceive, and landed a recurring guest role on the police drama
High Incident, which was produced by Steven Spielberg. She also attracted a solid following as Gina Kincaid on
Beverly Hills 90210 where she remained with the show for one and a half seasons.
Marcil was cast in several films like
The Rock, This Space Between Us and
Nice Guys Sleep Alone, but gained fame when she became part of the television series
Las Vegas as Samantha Jane "Sam" Marquez, the self-proclaimed best Casino Host in the world. She first appeared on the series in 2003 and remained until the show's cancellation this year.
Despite the flooding rumors of Marcil's return to
General Hospital, the show's reps are not in a hurry to make her an offer she can't refuse.
"Even through we'd love to have her come back there are no immediate plans to have her return to
General Hospital at this time" a rep for the show said.
