Jason and Elizabeth, or “Liason” as some would call it, have mostly been positively received by General Hospital
fans. Elizabeth first became involved with Jason in 1999 after she treated him for a gunshot wound and housed him in her art studio. They became close friends as Jason began to develop feelings for Elizabeth, who returned them as well.
They started dating three years later but after Elizabeth was kidnapped by Jason's enemies, he pushed her away to protect her from his dangerous life. But that didn't stop the couple from admitting to each other that they wanted to be together. Later, Jason and Elizabeth both married others, and their friendship was nonexistent for about a year. The illness of Jason's sister and Elizabeth's best friend, Emily Quartermaine, along with Elizabeth's marriage problems, led them to become friends and confidants again. After Emily's death and funeral, Jason and Elizabeth began a secret relationship, which eventually led to their engagement. However, several mob related events occurred, which prompted Jason to call of their relationship. And while Elizabeth decided to fight for him, Jason was adamant that he cannot give her what she deserves.
Because Jason's life with the mob has always been a hindrance in his relationship with Elizabeth, Jason and Elizabeth forced themselves to accept some cold hard facts about their future. Most recently, they came to a sad agreement that Jason should not be in their son Jake or Elizabeth's life anymore. And while General Hospital
fans are mourning over the couple's decision that they can never be together, cast members Steve Burton
(Jason) and Rebecca Herbst
(Elizabeth) are grieving as well.
"We had quite the following for a couple who never were together," Steve Burton told Soap Opera Digest.
"It was a hard pill for me, personally, to swallow," added Rebecca Herbst.
