Gene Simmons decided to accept an offer to perform on a Las Vegas show with big band Royal Crown Revue. Noisy neighbors and longtime partner
Shannon Tweed's home improvement spree made it impossible for him to concentrate on his new material. He decided to drive to Las Vegas for a few hours of solitude. However, Shannon's do-it-yourself skills were not up to par, resulting in Gene's car breaking down in the desert and a faulty pipe bursting at home, flooding his office of priceless Kiss collectables. In the desert, Gene met an odd cast of characters and attempted to hitchhike to Vegas in time for his show, while Shannon went around L.A. to replace Gene's ruined collectables by buying them from the Kiss fans that have given Gene their hard earned cash over the years.
The clock is ticking as Gene is still stranded in the desert. In attempt to be rescued, he calls Carrot Top, a notable comedian who headlines in Las Vegas, who gets Gene to Las Vegas in time for his concert at the Hard Rock where a packed house awaits Gene's arrival to witness his first solo performance ever.
On tonight's installment of
Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Gene steps out from his role as Kiss lead singer to front a full-scale rhythm and blues big band show. For his first venture into the world of big band, a type of musical ensemble associated with playing jazz music which became popular during the 1930s, Simmons has chosen to collaborate with Royal Crown Revue, a group known for its embodiment of classic American style and sound.
"The episodes document the recording session and Las Vegas concert that we did last fall with the legendary Mr. Simmons. I can guarantee that this [ought to] be well worth watching," Royal Crown Revue front man Eddie Nichols said of tonight's installment.
