Gene Simmons, co-founder of legendary rock band Kiss, was nearly in tears when he lost his beloved dog Snippy on the reality series Gene Simmons Family Jewels.  The infamous rock star reportedly lost the pooch, which was collected from a vet after having an operation to repair a broken leg earlier in the episode, when the front gate of his Los Angeles mansion was left open during the filming of the reality show.

Simmons, 58, immediately conducted a search around the local neighborhood but to no avail.  The Simmons family then retired back to the house to call a pet rescue expert.  In a desperate attempt, Simmons got in a helicopter with the pet rescue expert in the hope to find Snippy.

Following his unsuccessful efforts to find the dog, a distressed Simmons had to play a scheduled gig in front of thousands of fans.  Luckily, Simmons was reunited with Snippy after the pet rescuer found the dog at the next door neighbor's house just before Simmons was about to perform.

Fans of Gene Simmons Family Jewels are well aware of the fact that Snippy is considered as an important member of the Simmons household.  Simmons even describes his dog as, “more important than my wife and kids.”

A mix breed, Snippy was adopted almost a decade ago after Gene Simmons' long time partner, Shannon Tweed, saw her at a roadside pet rescue.  Tweed recalls that she reminded her of her childhood dog, Lassie, and that the name on her dog tag was Peanut.

The Simmons family eventually renamed her Snippy because young Nick, Simmons and Tweed's son, thought she was a boy dog whose male genitalia has been “snipped” off, and the rest is history.

Catch Snippy and the rest of the Simmons family on Gene Simmons Family Jewels every Tuesday at 10/9c on A&E.
