'Dancing with the Stars' Week 5 Results: Time for a Duel
'Dancing with the Stars' Week 5 Results: Time for a Duel

Things are different in Dancing with the Stars week 5.

I don't mean the dances -- Latin are pretty standard. I definitely don't mean the continuously be-sequined costumes. Nope, the difference is in the Dancing with the Stars elimination itself. Because tonight, for the first time, the DWTS judges will have the final say on which celebrity will go home. Keep reading for all of the Dancing with the Stars results!

We will not be having quite as many side-performance distractions in this Dancing with the Stars: The Results Show because of the first DWTS Dance Duel -- the bottom two performers of Dancing with the Stars week 5 will have to cha-cha simultaneously to influence the judges' decision. That will take awhile.

Is it hard to remember the Dancing with the Stars week 5 performances? That's OK. We have our full DWTS recap here!

Or just watch the highlights here:

Who is likely to participate to the first Dancing with the Stars Dance Duel? The standings after last night give us a hint:

1. (tie) Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas: 29 points
1. (tie) William Levy and Cheryl Burke: 29 points
3. (tie) Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd: 27 points
3. (tie) Maria Menounos and Derek Hough: 27 points
5. Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower: 26 points
6. Jaleel White and Kym Johnson: 24 points
7. Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus: 22 points
8. Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy: 21 points
9. Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff: 19 points

But it's not just scores, of course, that determine DWTS success and failure. The votes and audience opinion have a say as well. Assuming that the viewing masses mimic BuddyTV readers, we conducted a poll to see who you think will go home. The results? 47 percent of readers picked Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff as the most likely candidates for elimination. They were followed by Melissa and Maks (26 percent) and Gladys and Tristan (15 percent).

We've been wrong before. Will we be wrong tonight? Let's find out!

Before there are any results, there is the encore dance of the night -- tonight it's Maria and Derek's salsa. Still fun, although not as smooth as last night.

That's OK.

First up for some RESULTS? Gladys & Tristan, Melissa & Maks, and Maria & Derek.

And the first results of the night...

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough are SAFE!!!

Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy are SAFE!!!
(and did she swear there?)

And...

Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus are SAFE!!!

128197_1055_pre.jpgSo what does this mean for the Dance Duel? Considering who's been in the bottom two already this season, it's not looking good for Gavin DeGraw and Roshon Fegan...

Or maybe someone else has fallen from audience favor?

Whoever it is, we have an interlude to ponder things. That's because Train is performing. Apparently they have a new album out.

Next up for RESULTS: William & Cheryl, Gavin & Karina, and Roshon & Chelsie.

Gavin just talked about getting eaten by sharks and stuff. Thank goodness he has a canoe now!

Anyway, never mind. The show is doing a Latin percussion extravaganza with Sheila E now. Results will have to wait.

OK, seriously? We still have to wait for the results? Because Selena Gomez is performing? Wow, that Selena Gomez bumps everybody... (If you don't get the reference, I'm sorry you're not watching Bones. See who else Selena Gomez bumped in this week's Bones quotes.)

Whatever.

Despite what I said before, it's entirely possible that the next RESULTS are for Donald & Peta, Katherine & Mark, and William & Cheryl. Dancing with the Stars is totally messing with us tonight. This makes more sense though.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke are SAFE!!!

That's not a shock.

Also...

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas are SAFE!!!

And finally...

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd are SAFE!!!

128197_1407_pre.jpgThe final three who don't have RESULTS yet are up: Jaleel & Kym, Roshon & Chelsie, and Gavin and Karina.

Only one couple will avoid the Dance Duel at this point. Who will it be?

The last bastion of safety goes to...

Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower are SAFE!!!

That puts Jaleel & Kym and Gavin & Karina are in the Dance Duel.

If it were a competition for self-deprecation, Gavin DeGraw would kill at this. As it is, things are going to be difficult for him.

The Dance Duel
With two couples dancing at the same time, this is going to be interesting.

They have to start out facing each other. This could get violent.

Gavin and Karina: With an interesting beginning -- Gavin dancing on his knees -- this is a much better dance than last night's. Not a lot of tricks, but the style looks good.

Jaleel and Kym: They start out the fastest -- lots of steps to start. The tricks are all over the place, and everything looks smooth. It's a pretty good dance.

But what do the judges think?

After a lot of praise for both couples...

Carrie Ann: Jaleel and Kym
Len: Jaleel and Kym
Bruno: Jaleel and Kym

That means...

Jaleel White and Kym Johnson are SAFE!!!

So that's that -- Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff have been eliminated from Dancing with the Stars season 14!
