Think The Sopranos but with lots of magical fantasy elements. Game of Thrones, the latest brainchild from creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss, is a television series based on George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. Set to premiere on HBO in spring 2011, the show takes viewers to the fictional medieval world of Westeros where "summers span decades and winters can last a lifetime."

Staying true to Martin's best selling work, the TV series Game of Thrones also emphasizes the vicious rivalries among noble families while introducing humans, fire-breathing dragons and other types of races.

Similar to the production of HBO's Rome, Game of Thrones boasts an impressive ensemble with a production budget that appeared to be more costly than it actually was.

The cast includes Mark Addy as King Robert Baratheon, Alfie Allen as Theon Greyjoy, Sean Bean as Eddard "Ned" Stark, Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Ser Jaime Lannister, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Michelle Fairley as Catelyn Stark, Aidan Gillen as Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish, Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Baratheon, Iain Glen as Ser Jorah Mormont, Kit Harington as Jon Snow and Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, just to name a few.
