Hey, remember how
Family Guy was awesome, and then Fox canceled it before its time, and the
Family Guy fans got sad and then mad and then bought all the
Family Guy DVDs on the planet plus one, so Fox brought the show back to life and even made a spin-off, and everyone (especially Seth MacFarlane) lived happily ever after?
Well,
Futurama fans, now it's your turn: Here comes the happy ending of your zombie-cartoon fairy tale.
Tomorrow night the new season of TV's smartest, sharpest sci-fi cartoon,
Futurama, kicks off on Comedy Central with its first two original, brand-spanking-new episodes since Matt Groening and David X. Cohen got their pink slip from Adult Swim back in 2003.
Watch the first minute and a half of tomorrow's premiere, "Rebirth," which, in typical
Futurama fashion, sets up the series' second life with cheeky self-awareness:
The synopsis of "Rebirth," which airs at 10pm, tells us that "after a devastating spaceship
crash, the Professor attempts to resuscitate the crew with his birth
machine." Episode 6.02, "In-A-Gadda-Da-Leela," will follow at 10:30pm with an adventure during which "Leela and Zapp Brannigan find themselves stranded on an Eden-like planet."
Need help warming up your
Futurama muscles? "Into The Wild Green Yonder" Parts 1-4 (originally intended to be the series finale) will air on Comedy Central from 8-10pm before Thursday night's premiere.
Don't have time for a two-hour refresher? Then take this seven-minute crash course in
Futurama history.
And, as if the geeks needed more reasons to rejoice, Cohen teased some of this season's upcoming guest stars to the
Huffington Post:
"
Al Gore will be making his fourth appearance. He's in our holiday
special which will be between the two seasons. Other guests for the
sci-fi fans includes
Katee Sackhoff and she's playing a person with a
very alien-related fetish, and I'll just leave it at that. A couple of
comedians we're fans of will be making appearances.
Chris Elliot, Patton
Oswalt and
Craig Ferguson will be on. And one more that I'll mention,
for our 100th episode for our season finale at the end of the summer we
have
Devo appearing."
Futurama's coming back with a bang and, in the words of the best 7-11 clerk in the
Futurama universe, "If for any reason you're not completely satisfied, I hate you."
OK, I don't hate you. But I love
Futurama, and I couldn't be happier that it's back--where do you stand?
