Fringe: Episode 2 "The Same Old Story" Recap (Page 3/3)

Dr. Bishop (John Noble) wants to view the last thing that the Brittany Murphy look-alike saw, and he has the Alias science to do such a thing.  To pull off this totally plausible stunt Bishop will need some sort of laser doohickey that's only available at Massive Dynamic.  Olivia heads to the shady company to ask Nina (Blair Brown) for the device, and she actually hands it over out of the kindness of her heart.  Well, that was easy.

After removing the dead girl's eyeball, Bishop turns on the strobe light and gets to work extracting the last thing she ever saw.  I absolutely love the wacky science in this show.  It's so much more fun than boring real science!  The team gets an image of a bridge from Brittany Murphy's eyeball, and after a high tech Google search they're off to find the location.  Once they arrive, they find Dr. Penrose preparing to assist with a pituitary removal on another helpless young lady.  He makes a run for it along with Mr. Worst Booty Call Ever, forcing Olivia to chase after them while Peter (Joshua Jackson) watches over the patient.

When the patient flatlines from an anesthesia overdose, Peter calls his crazy father for medical assistance.  “Do you have any cocaine?” Dr. Bishop asks, thinking it's the most normal question in the world.  Peter is without the white stuff, so instead he rigs together a defibrillator and resuscitates her that way.  Meanwhile, Olivia catches up to the brain surgeon and finds that he's aged about 50 years during their chase sequence.  He kicks the bucket after mentioning how much Penrose loved him.

As the episode wraps up, Olivia returns the device to Nina, who tries to talk her into taking a job at Massive Dynamic.  Though the company is supremely powerful and may help her figure out The Pattern, she's not interested.  After Olivia returns to the lab, Dr. Bishop asks her if she knows about something odd in Peter's medical history.  Olivia has no clue what he's talking about, so he decides to keep it a mystery for now.  Is Peter a genius because he was experimented on as a child?  Was he grown in a lab?  Will a rapidly aging baby soon burst out of his chest?  I have no idea, but I'm dying to find out.
