'Fringe' Season 5 Video: Another Friendly Warning from the Observers

Maybe the Observers really aren't so bad in the dystopian future of Fringe season 5? After all, they keep making helpful PSAs so that humans (or "Natives," as the Observers like to call us) will know how to behave at all times!

It's almost nice. Or it would be, if it were not so menacing and creepy.

Fringe is available on Amazon Prime.

This is the second "native edict" explaining Observer protocol to be released by the evil-genius marketing types at Fringe. Like the earlier video, the entirety of the message comes from the deadly serious (emphasis on deadly) Windmark (played by Michael Kopsa). The topic of his warning addresses something we saw in detail back in episode 4's "Letters of Transit" episode -- travel.

Want to watch another Observer "native edict?" Then click here to see Windmark explain cerebral scan protocol in the creepiest possible way.

No big deal, right?

While it's safe to say that we are not likely to see these videos actually appear in Fringe season 5, they do give us a feel for the world we will experience there. Normal people are ruled strictly, with only minimal rights. The Observers run the show.

Or do they?

If you watch carefully, this video has a few other messages. Hidden in the static that interrupts the Observer from time to time are seditious messages.

These are not messages from the Observers. Rather, they seem to be calls to join the Resistance. Take, for example, the screen that flashes by at around the 26-second mark:

Fringe-ObsBigSkulls.jpgThis is definitely not what the Observers want.

Another image comes through at the 36-second mark. This one is even more obvious in its anti-Observer sentiment:

Fringe-ObsTank.jpgI especially like the skulls wearing Observer fedoras. It's a nice touch on the part of some Resistance artist out there.

Will these videos play any part in the story of Fringe season 5? Will we get any explanation for them as we see the Resistance in action? That remains to be seen -- and we will get the chance to see it when Fringe returns on Friday, September 28 at 9pm on FOX.
