After frequent comparisons to
Lost seeing that both came from the same guy J. J. Abrams, the paranormal show
Fringe will now be accessible to British fans as a UK company has recently acquired the rights to broadcast the show.
Sky1 big boss David Smyth was reportedly very happy with the acquisition, saying that they expect
Fringe to have the same cult following as
The X-Files some 15 years ago. Sky1 is also the home of
Lost in the UK.
“We're delighted to have secured the rights to Fringe,” Smyth tells SFcrownsnest. "We're honored to be the home for J.J. Abrams' shows here in the UK.”
Moreover Warner president Jeffrey Schlesinger adds that
Fringe is one of the most highly anticipated television series of the new season. “J.J. Abrams and his partners have created a compelling series that has been eagerly anticipated since its announcement, and we look forward to working closely with Sky1 to make
Fringe a hit with their audience,” he said.
Fringe, which chronicles a team of experts and investigators who solve crimes via almost paranormal means, stars newcomer Anna Tor, alongside Josh Jackson of
Dawson's Creek, John Noble of
Lord of the Rings,
Lance Reddick of Lost and
The Wire, and
Kirk Acevedo of
Oz.
Premiering on autumn 2008 at the UK,
Fringe aims to somehow blur the line between science fiction and reality. Previously, it was reported that Fox is expecting a huge hit in
Fringe. What, with Abrams on the helm, and the very successful team behind
Alias to support it. It even has
House as its lead-in show. A t the same time, with
The X-Files movie was just coming out a few weeks back, so the interest for similarly themed shows seems to be at its peak.
