Lisa Marie Diane Kudrow, or Lisa Kudrow, was born on July 30, 1963 in Encino, California to Jewish parents Lee Kudrow and Nedra Stern. She has three older siblings. She was educated in Portola Middle School in Tarzana, California, Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California and Vassar College where she earned her degree in biology. Her earlier appearances were in Mad About You where she played Ursula Buffay. Later on she was cast for Friends as Phoebe Buffay, Ursula's identical twin sister. She won an Emmy award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 1998, Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series in 2000, and an American Comedy Award for Funniest Supporting Female Performer in a TV Series in 2000, all for her role as Phoebe in Friends.
Phoebe Buffay is played by Lisa Kudrow in the hit television comedy series Friends. Phoebe is a homeless girl who suffered tragedy after tragedy. Her mother gave Phoebe and her twin sister up to another woman to raise. Their father also left them and soon after that their foster mother committed suicide and left the children to her next husband who was imprisoned shortly. This left the two girls homeless for a long time. They moved from town to town to find a living and finally settled with their grandmother. She spent years being homeless after she parted ways with her sister and grandmother. Phoebe is also musically talented and is regarded as a child at heart since she never really experienced childhood in the real sense of the word.
