Networks Cause Mass Hysteria with Schedule Changes
I know we ran through this last week, but there have been more changes and a boatload more speculation since then regarding the new prime time schedules for the major networks. Sweeps is a key time for re-tooling schedules, and once all the mid-season replacements are placed, the network's hands are pretty much tied. There's no turning back. In the past few days there have been some mildly surprising announcements (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip receiving a full-season pickup, Men In Trees to air post-Grey's Anatomy) and there are sure to be some more in the coming week, especially when NBC announces their Winter schedule and ABC decides what to do with their new/departing shows scheduling quagmire. Thanks, mostly to Variety, here is what we know at this point.
  • 30 Rock's movement to Thursdays is a last gasp effort to salvage some ratings, which have been abysmal thus far. NBC is hoping that Scrubs will help out the fledgling Tina Fey-led comedy.
  • NBC Head Kevin Reilly recently made it clear that Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip will probably be moved out of its 10PM Monday, post-Heroes time slot. This makes sense, since the Heroes demographic is none-to-similar to that of Studio 60. The most likely move is to Wednesdays at 10PM, in Kidnapped's old spot. Friday Night Lights will probably move into Studio 60's old slot.
  • ABC is a big wild card, with a number of new and returning shows to slot in somewhere, but with the departure of the two and a half weekly hours of Dancing with the Stars, ABC does have some room to maneuver. ABC may choose to strap George Lopez and According to Jim with dynamite and place them at 8:00 and 8:30 on Tuesdays, opposite world-killer American Idol. New show Knights of Prosperity could slide in at 9PM. Shat-tastic game show Show Me the Money will probably find itself at 8PM on Wednesdays.
  • The Bruckheimer-produced courtroom drama Justice has been canceled by FOX.
  • What About Brian has been picked up for a full season by ABC.
So, there you have it. More news will appear as it comes. -Oscar Dahl, BuddyTV Senior Writer
