Buddy Garrity is happy as a clam because his daughter Lyla is now living with him. She’s a bit distracted, probably because it’s Monday morning before school and Tim Riggins is half-naked in her room. It looks like that uber-Christian phase of hers is officially over.

Coach Taylor is spending his morning with Smash (Gaius Charles), helping him train and mend his broken leg so that he can get back to playing in college and stop working at the Alamo Freeze.

Tami’s first day of school as principal gets off to a rough start because some kids were left at home because of bus overcrowding and the air conditioner is broken. Tyra is more optimistic, focusing on school her senior year so she can get out of Dillon. That ends as soon as she meets the vice principal, who tells her she doesn’t have a shot at getting into a state school and she should settle for Dillon Tech.

Riggins and Lyla aren’t quite sure what their relationship status is, but they claim to be just friends. Lyla’s face tells another story when she meets Tim’s new rally girl and hears about a football party involving twins, baby oil and a bounce house.

Football practice is bad for Matt, because while he fumbles the ball, J.D. McCoy is looking good. J.D.’s father (a beer distributor) isn’t doing so bad either, because he’s in the stands talking to Buddy.

Tami burns the midnight oil, determining whether the school can afford soap or chalk. Buddy shows up to solve all her problems by giving her a huge check and talking about how the school needs a Jumbo-Tron. Buddy claims football and love are the two greatest things in the world, and there’s nothing more romantic than seeing two people get engaged on a 30-foot high screen at a football game.

Riggins and his brother Billy spend the night discussing relationships at a strip club. Tim wonders why he and Lyla can’t figure stuff out, and Billy says it’s because they’re secretive, as opposed to him and his girl, Tyra’s sister Mindy the stripper. The other problem is that, as Billy sees it, Tim is Lyla’s rebound guy after finding Jesus Christ.
