'Friday Night Lights' Star Confirms Third Season
Saturday, March 29, 2008

friday night lightsFans of Friday Night Lights will be pleased to know NBC's Emmy Award-winning yet perennially on-the-bubble drama series will return for a third season, according to cast member Kyle Chandler.  This information comes as a big boost to desperate fans following comments made by NBC chief Ben Silverman during the announcement of the second season DVD that strongly indicate that the show might be canceled.

In an interview taped Wednesday with David Bianculli, former TV critic for New York's Daily News, for National Public Radio's Fresh Air with Terry Gross, Chandler revealed that a deal was already struck, and that it will spread costs and allow the series to continue.

Eager to spread the good news, Bianculli immediately posted some of the details of the interview on his blog, TV Worth Watching.

“I'm very pleased to report: NBC's Friday Night Lights will, indeed, be returning for a third season, according to series star Kyle Chandler… All that was left, he said Wednesday, was to "dot the i's and cross the t's."  He was scheduled, and planning, to report back to Austin in June, he said, to start filming season three on location,” Bianculli posted.

“Thanks to Fresh Air executive producer Danny Miller for letting me share that breaking news in advance and thanks, Kyle, for a very intimate and honest interview… The word that Friday Night Lights, one of TV's best dramas, will be back, though, was too good not to share,” he added.

Although reports of Friday Night Lights renewal have already circulated for several weeks, with speculation of a deal involving DirecTV, NBC has yet to comment on the show's fate.

Friday Night Light stars Kyle Chandler as Eric Taylor, Adrianne Palicki as Tyra Collette, Aimee Teegarden as Julie Taylor, Gaius Charles as Brian "Smash" Williams, Scott Porter as Jason Street, Connie Britton as Tami Taylor, and Minka Kelly as Lyla Garrity, among others.
