'Friday Night Lights' Finale Preview: Reasons To Be Thankful?
Friday, August 06, 2010
I'm a little flustered that it took three episodes for Friday Night Lights to finally bring us the cross-Dillon battle: the Panthers versus the Lions, the angry parents versus the principal's husband, Eric versus the McCoys... you get the idea.
But it still works. The moment Dillon was split into two, you know this had to happen. It may not be the finals of anything, but for Eric, the match is an important one. He's got something to prove, and everybody in the team has something to prove to. After all, everybody's been looking down on East Dillon, thanks to its bad reputation, and a victory on this front should force a rethink.
But the match on the football field is, obviously, not everything. There's a lot to wrap up now that Friday Night Lights is wrapping up another season of sheer goodness. There's Tami, who's still facing flak after allegedly advising Becky to get an abortion. As the pressure mounts, she's forced to give an apology she doesn't want to take. Question one: what will she do? Question two: will she ever recover from all this?
And then there's Tim, whose efforts to score himself a good parcel of land got him in the slammer. It's a complicated position for the Riggins brothers, but more so for Tim, who makes a tough call. Don't tell me you're going to take all the blame for this? I know there's not much going for you, but hey, this doesn't sound right!
Finally, there's Julie, who's still reeling from Matt's sudden departure to Chicago. Tonight, he returns, tries to woo her back... I sense he'll do something fairly drastic. Like, say, a "will you come with me to Chicago?" line. Which probably wouldn't go well with any of the Taylors.
It's Thanksgiving in town, and there's a lot of loose ends to tie up. The Friday Night Lights season finale airs tonight from 8pm on NBC. And then, we're off to the fifth season, which is looking like its very last...
