NBC has again showed showed faith in an under-dog, awarding the struggling
Friday Night Lights a full season order as well as a time slot change meant to get it out of the path of January's ratings steamroller American Idol.
Friday Night Lights is expected to move to Sunday in January, with changes to other shows in the way of the worlds most popular talent show to be announced soon.
Friday Night Lights has averaged less than 7 million viewers, which does not meet even the barest of big network expectations for a cinematic, big budget production. Non-the-less, NBC apparently believes in
Friday Night Lights, and is willing to give it a chance to shine.
"We're proud to reward an authentic, poignant series like '
Friday Night Lights' with a full-season order, demonstrating our confidence in its appeal and quality," NBC Entertainment president Kevin Reilly said.
