Much like the Dillon Panthers themselves, Friday Night Lights
is often thought of as an underdog. The series has never earned stellar ratings or any major Emmy nominations, yet it's survived three seasons simply because it's one of the best shows on television. Season 3 of the series kicked off October 1 on DirecTV, but won't be airing on NBC until early 2009. The scheduling may inconvenience some FNL
fans, but the DirecTV deal was necessary to keep the Dillon Panthers on the field for another year.
