Leading the cast are Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement as themselves. McKenzie, a native of New Zealand, is described as the shy but confident half of the band. He has been performing professionally in the music, film, and theater industry. He has also appeared in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. As for Clement, he is considered as a self-styled ladies man. He has also been involved in various radio, stage, and television projects, and has already released a live album called “Folk the World.”

Also featured on the show is the band’s manager Murray, played by Rhys Darby. Darby is an actor-comedian from New Zealand who has performed in various comedy clubs and festivals.

Actress Kristen Schaal plays the role of Mel, the number one fan of Flight of the Conchord. Schaal has won many awards including Best Alternative Comic at HBO's 2006 United States Comedy Arts Festival, the 2nd annual Andy Kaufman Award, and the 2006 Nightlife Award in New York for best female stand-up. Her acting credits include Ugly Betty, Six Degrees, Kate and Leopold, Adam and Steve, Delirious, Law and Order: SVU, The Education of Max Bickford, and Comedy Central's Live at Gotham.

Last but not the least, the series includes Dave, the best friend and advisor of Bret and Jemaine, who is played by Arj Baker. Baker has appeared on shows like the Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien, and David Letterman.
