The second season of Flight of the Conchords doesn't premiere until January 18, 2009, but fans who are capable of using the internet can get a sneak peek come next week.  Flight of the Conchords, the HBO comedy series, became an underground and critically acclaimed hit in its first season.  Starring New Zealanders Bret McKenzie and Jermaine Clement as struggling musicians in New York City, Flight of the Conchords is a rare musical comedy, with Bret and Jermaine breaking into song multiple times per episode.  Fans looking forward to the new season will be able to watch the first episode of season 2 on FunnyorDie.com starting December 17.

Flight of the Conchords season 2 was supposed to premiere sometime in 2008, but as HBO is wont to do, they gave Bret and Jermaine all the time they needed to create a quality season.  In interviews, the two Conchords expressed the difficulty of making season 2 of the series.  The problem was that season 2 demanded all new material, because they had exhausted almost their entire repertoire in season 1, which meant they had to write all new songs.  Not only are they creating a half hour comedy, they're also writing more than an album's worth of songs.  Given how good season 1 was, it was wise for HBO to allow Flight of the Conchords enough time to make a show they could be proud of.

Though no footage of Flight of the Conchords season 2 exists on the internet yet, HBO did release a little promotional teaser, which you can find below.  Jermaine drives around while Bret shoots criminals from the passenger seat.  It's typical off-beat humor from the two Kiwis, and immediately has me excited for season 2 to premiere.  Season 2 may be the last season of Flight of the Conchords, this according to Bret and Jermaine.  Let's hope that's not the case.
