If being off the air for months isn't bad enough for Flash Forward, then it looks like the future has gotten worse. The show has already been struggling in the ratings and it can't seem to catch a break anymore, especially now that it has lost another showrunner.
Variety reports that David S. Goyer has decided to exit his role on the show, even though he will remain an executive producer for Flash Forward. Last year, the original showrunner Mark Guggenheim departed the ABC drama and left the job to Goyer. Now, there's no one to fill in the spot again.
The network still hasn't named a new showrunner to replace him, so we'll just have to wait for further announcements. But we can bet it's going to be tough finding someone so invested in
Flash Forward as Goyer was.
According to a statement that he released, he will be leaving the show to pursue his film career further. Most of us are aware of his success with
Batman Begins and
The Dark Knight, so it's no surprise he wants to continue that.
"As my feature projects have started ramping up again, I felt I was being pulled in too many directions," Goyer announced. He does believe that he'll be leaving
Flash Forward to those more capable of making it work.
"I'm proud of the show and excited about the relaunch. It's in great hands," he added. So far, the series really has been having a tough time holding on to its audience. The numbers have dropped significantly and it can't seem to pull off the premise.
Still, perhaps a new showrunner will be able to save the show. Goyer's departure paves the way for change, and there's always the possibility that it will be a positive one.
Flash Forward returns on March 18, meaning there will be enough time to find someone who can better handle the reins.
