Bizarre Print Ads Employed for 'Flash Forward'
Bizarre Print Ads Employed for 'Flash Forward'
Of course the big guys behind the TV screen are going to use the most enticing advertisements to increase hype for a show.  It's no surprise that ABC is creating this huge ad campaign for Flash Forward, in almost the same way Lost was promoted during its glory days.

The upcoming thriller is hoping to draw in even more fans using these peculiar codes printed straight onto ads for the show.  These black-and-white squares on the posters supposedly contain a hidden picture, and can only be revealed when held up to a webcam.

Variety reports that once the picture is on the computer screen, it turns into a 3-D ad for the highly anticipated series.  That square is apparently another photo from Flash Forward, and will transform into minute-plus clips if clicked.  Now, whether this is true or just a rumor, it's certainly enough to make us curious.  And besides, we're already excited about the show's premiere in the first place, so is this really necessary?

The strategy, which has been dubbed as "augmented reality," has caused a lot of buzz with soon-to-be fans of the series.  "It appears to play right out of the ad," explained ABC Entertainment advertising/marketing veep Darren Schillace.  "Once you watch all the videos, it's a 10-minute experience.  In the normal world, you'd never spend 10 minutes with a print ad."

Whether or not you're patient for Flash Forward to air, this odd campaign is still worth a shot.  The ads can be seen on a variety of publications targeting a tech-savvy audience, such as Wired and several gaming magazines.  These little squares are also downloadable from Jointhemosaic.com, a sister site of the show.

But for those who aren't too keen on the black-and-white techno-magic of this ad campaign, we've got a couple more trailers of the series below.  The first one's a two-minute extended sneak peek, and the second is a 15-second revelation of Dominic Monaghan's character.

Well, my future will involve the premiere of Flash Forward on September 24.  Don't miss the series as it airs on ABC.
